Homeless Assistance

MDS Community Action Agency began a new service during the 2016/17 program year. The Homeless Assistance Program is funded through a Michigan State Housing Development Authority grant in partnership with Marquette Alger Community Action Agency.
The Emergency Services Grant provides funding for a Housing Resource Specialist who works with individuals and families who are at risk of being homeless or are homeless at the time of services.
In addition to the Emergence Services Grant, MDS Community Action Agency directly received an Emergency Shelter Grant through the Salvation Army of Detroit, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Housing and Homeless Services department.
The Housing Resource Specialist works with anyone who is at risk of being homeless or is homeless, helping people to stabilize their housing needs. In addition, the Housing Resource Specialist is able to set up emergency shelter providing people with an immediate and safe place to sleep at night.
